coderoom.tech

Live

A smarter environment for programming education.

coderoom.tech brings computer science teaching into one simple place. Teachers create exams and homework and see their class as it works. Students write real programs in the browser and watch them run, with nothing to install.

Far more than code.

15 kinds of task, from SQL to flowcharts and logic circuits. Flowcharts really run, circuits are really simulated and queries run on real tables.

A CodeRoom logic circuit task: an XOR circuit built from four NAND gates, with inputs A and B switched to show the output Q.

Let the tests do the checking.

Visible or hidden test cases run for you and suggest the points. You make the final call, add feedback and release results when you're ready.

Grading one answer in CodeRoom: the student's Python code, three passed tests, two of them hidden, and 10 points suggested from the tests next to a feedback box.

Fair exams, with the facts in front of you.

You decide what happens when a student leaves the exam window. coderoom.tech gives you the facts, and the judgement stays with you.

A lock isn't a blind spot

While an exam is locked, you see whether the window is back in front, how long it was away, and the total for the exam.

A CodeRoom notice to the teacher: Noah Kim left the exam window and has been away for 6 seconds, with the student's explanation and buttons to allow the student to continue.

Students can explain

A notification really can pop up. Students can tell you why they left, in their own words, and it stays in their timeline.

The CodeRoom lock screen, waiting for teacher approval. The student has written that a notification popped up and they clicked on it by accident.

Lock, or just take note

Lock the exam, or keep it running and simply see who left and for how long. The student's screen doesn't react, and the rules tell them it's recorded.

CodeRoom exam settings. When a student leaves the exam window: lock the exam, or don't lock and only record it. Below is an option to block pasting from outside the exam.

Two choices in the exam settings.

No pasting from elsewhere

Text copied from another website or program can't be pasted in. Copying inside the exam still works. You see that a paste was refused, never what it said.

Full screen, start to finish

Exams open in full screen when the student presses Start, with less to pull their attention away. If they press Esc, the exam carries on, one click takes them back, and you can see it.

A second chance, when it's fair

Handed in too early, or a laptop died? While the exam is open, reopen it for that one student: let them continue with the minutes you choose, or start over.

CodeRoom asks the teacher: let Sofia Alvarez continue? The student gets back into the exam with their answers and 10 minutes, and the points are given again when they finish. Beside it, the panel to reopen the exam for this student.

What this can't do

coderoom.tech sees the exam window, not the student. It can't see a phone or a second computer, and a determined student with a browser extension can get around a website's rules. So this is information for you to weigh, never proof on its own.

Everything else, in short

  • Real code in the browser

Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C, C++, Java, PHP and Ruby. Each program runs in its own sealed sandbox, with nothing to install.

  • 15 kinds of task

Code, written and short answers, multiple choice, predict the output, find the bug, order the lines, truth and trace tables, pseudocode, SQL, flowcharts, logic circuits, Little Man Computer and diagrams.

  • A live view of the class

See who has started, who is working and who needs you, with each student's saved code updated every few seconds.

  • Fix the answer key

Found a mistake in a test? Correct it, and everyone's work is graded again.

  • Fair for every student

Extra time in advance or during an exam. Choose how long a student may leave before it locks, and whether the timer pauses.

  • Your class in one place

Announcements and presentations, one code or link to invite everyone, and results as a spreadsheet.

  • Calm for students

Work saves itself and survives a dropped connection. When time is up, what they wrote is handed in, not lost.

  • Homework that teaches

Code can be checked while students work, and results come with points and feedback, question by question.

  • Made comfortable

Light or dark, an editor set up their way, and a profile with their own picture and status.

  • Made for every classroom

18 languages, including Arabic from right to left, each person's own time zone, on a computer or a phone, tested for accessibility.

  • Students are not our product

No ads, no tracking, no selling data. Servers in Germany, email from France, and everyone can download or delete their data.

  • Free to use

No budget meeting, no card. If paid options come much later, we'll be open about it.

Coming next

Not available yet.

  • An AI tutor that teaches

Optional hints and explanations for homework, not finished answers. Off during exams, and the teacher decides.

  • AI help for teachers

Suggested grades and new exercises. A suggestion is only a suggestion: the teacher decides.

  • Safe Exam Browser

Support for the separate app that limits what a computer can do during a test.
